Bad Bolts Home

This database is a public record of routes that have been reported as having unsafe or suspicious bolts or anchors.

The routes shown have been submitted through the Bad Bolts form on this website and this is by no means an exhaustive list.

Once submitted, we will try our best to locate and contact the original equipper of each route. They will then be offered the option of fixing it with bolts provided by us or just letting us go ahead and re-equip as we see fit.

In some rare cases they may decide they would not like anyone to replace any bolts and if so we will respect their wishes. We will however keep a record on this list so that people can make an informed decision before committing to climb the route.

Once approval has been received from the original route setter, or we feel that enough time has passed and a genuine effort has been made to contact them, we will replace anything we deem to be unsafe with the new bolts being placed as close as safely possible.

We will never add bolts or change lines unless specifically instructed to do so by the person who originally equipped the route.

If there are routes you know about that should be added to this list, please use this link to tell us!
